The More You Lift The More You Lose

If you have already started training with Uber Shape you would have realised that we mainly base our training utilising weights and full body exercises for 99% of the workout program. This maximises improvements in fitness and body composition, one thing that you can’t afford to overlook is the benefits of weight training over cardio.

Many people unfortunately believe that if they want to succeed with losing body fat, cardio is the best way to go. They hop on a machine, see the calories ticking away as they ‘do their time’, and figure they are right on track to success. But sadly, this isn’t the case at all.  The fact of the matter is, when it comes to being able to effectively burn body fat; nothing is going to beat a good weight training session.

Let’s have a quick look at the main points that you need to know, so you can see why this is the way to go.

Weight Training and Your Metabolic Rate.
The very first reason why weight training is going to earn top marks as far as helping you lose body fat is because of the simple fact that performing a single session can help to boost the calories you burn for up to 48 hours after the workout is completed. So theoretically speaking, after you go to the gym and perform an intense weight lifting workout, you will continue to burn fat faster even while sitting on the couch later that evening watching your favourite TV shows. (Let’s hope your on the internet researching that Paleo Diet!)

How much better does it get? You can literally burn fat faster in your sleep if weight training is included as part of your overall plan.
Cardio training however, the minute you step off the treadmill, bike, elliptical, or whatever type of cardio you’re doing, your metabolic boost comes to an immediate halt. You’ll burn no more calories over and above what you normally would have. The exception to this is, you are brand new to exercise or you haven’t done much of it in the past. When you first hit the cardio your body will burn fat for up to 6 weeks. From here your body gets very efficient at burning less fat needed for the exercise and you will plateau.

Lean Muscle = Energy Burning Machine
Having more muscle is not a bad thing for girls. Think of it this way. The more muscle you have the more energy your body requires to run.
If you are able to build more lean muscle mass, or even retain muscle mass that you otherwise would have lost doing hours and hours of cardio training, this is going to help you maintain a higher calorie burn throughout the day, regardless of what you’re doing.

Those who have more lean muscle mass burn off calories faster, which is something referred to as their resting metabolic rate. For girls that are worried about looking like that picture, don’t because it’s that something extra.
